ABOUT RICHARD WAKES UP: The play depicts our Richard, a mousy milquetoast of a man, waking up to a phone call inviting him to live underground forever. Richard declines, and that decision sends him on a journey, both terrifying and absurd, through motel swimming pools and elevator shafts, abandoned subway tunnels and high-rise Hollywood office buildings, as he attempts to figure out who he truly is and why he wants (and deserves) to stay above the surface.
ABOUT WILD ONION THEATRE COMPANY: Founded by four Northwestern University graduates, the mission of the Wild Onion Theatre Company is to provide both a proverbial and physical stage for members of the local LA community to enact their enthusiasm for the arts. Through grassroots collaboration, Wild Onion aims to provide a comfortable space for local artists to nurture, brandish, and test their talents. Conversely, Wild Onion seeks to establish a program for audiences that is at once accessible, provocative, and organic – a place for Angelenos to celebrate and explore the inimitable complexities of their neighborhood!
